Re: Grainy paints / What do you use?
Still find myself having issues with Golden Fluid acrylics breaking apart on the surface of my size. Today, they broke apart on a fresh bath and continued to do so after working a bit. Sometimes, this problem does not happen at all however. Attached are a few photos of what I'm talking about. Not su...

Re: If I am adding several layers on top of my marbling, do I need to re-apply allum?
I use Golden Fluid Acrylics and a size made of carrageenan. I've been able to overmarble without a problem. I alum the paper (following the Jacquard ratio for paper...I think it says 1/4c Alum to 1 quart water?), let it dry, marble it, let it dry, alum it again, let it dry, marble it, let it dry. Al...

Sheet Masking/Painting over Marbling
Hello everyone, I was curious as to your methods for sheet masking or even painting over your marbled works. How can you cover pieces of marbled paper and marble it a second time? I've tried gluing plain white paper to my marbled sheets and had decent results - though I want to do more detailed thin...

Grainy paints / What do you use?
I currently use Golden Acrylic paints and distilled water for marbling. My size is made using Jacquard carrageenan at a ratio of 18g per gallon of water. I often find that some colors result in a very grainy pattern, almost like a broken emulsion. I notice it most in my black but it happens with oth...

Re: Paper
Malcom, I'm an amateur as well from USA. I've had good luck with Rives BFK Printmaking papers with both methocel and carrageenan. I also like to use rice paper of various kinds for cool textures. Paper in general is always an experiment and can get very expensive. Look for sales at art stores for de...

Making tools (Combs, rakes, etc)
I've upgraded myself to a slightly larger tank recently and want to make some new combs of varying sizes. Anyone have any good tips? My old ones were toothpicks and cardboard - it got the job done but wasn't the best. I'd like to use metal pins - ideally about 3 inches long so that I can glue them t...

Re: alternate size
While I was traveling in South America, I tried a few experiments with alternate thickeners. Cornstarch was my first effort. I can't say conclusively that it did or did not work because I had virtually nothing else to use - no good paints, no paper, etc (Small beach towns in Peru can be limiting...)...

Hello!
Hi, I'm Griffin Benko from Chicago, USA. After seeing videos of marbling and ebru art, I tried as best as I could to teach myself using whatever info I could find on google, in books, videos, and on the Yahoo forum. I was given some much needed help from another Chicago marbler and it really helped ...
